QUESTION:

how many books constitutes the analects of cconfususios?

four books

The Analects are a collection of Confucius’s sayings brought together by his pupils shortly after his death in 497 BC. Together they express a philosophy, or a moral code, by which Confucius, one of the most humane thinkers of all time, believed everyone should live. Upholding the ideals of wisdom, self-knowledge, courage and love of one’s fellow man, he argued that the pursuit of virtue should be every individual’s supreme goal. And, while following the Way, or the truth, might not result in immediate or material gain, Confucius showed that it could nevertheless bring its own powerful and lasting spiritual rewards.

3. similarities and differences of The book of Tao and Analects of Confucius

Answer:

The Analects of Confucius and the Tao Te Ching, although similar in their intent, deliver different aspects of what is the ultimate good in life as well as how to reach that good. Confucius takes a more active view in order to acquire jen or good through knowledge, justice and obedience. Lao-Tzu prefers a subtle approach to life in striving for self-contentment. They also differ on the role the government should play in a persons quest for goodness. These differences create opposing views on what is the true meaning of goodness.

Confucius fundamental goal is a society that promotes goodness. From this society, individual goodness will inevitably follow. In order to reach this good, he feels that one must be active in educating herself and acting as a teacher towards others:

Tzu-kung said, If a ruler not only conferred wide benefits upon the common people, but also compassed the salvation of the whole State, what would you say of him? Surely you would call him Good? The Master said, It would no longer be a matter of Good. He would without a doubt be a divine Sage.

Explanation:

Confucius believes that a leader who can instill goodness among her people will subsequently achieve a God-like status, and in fact surpass good. Lao-Tzu, on the other hand, believes that the ultimate good comes from being content with yourself. This satisfaction is achieved by not acting, or wu-wei, and focusing instead, on bettering yourself through reflection. Therefore the Sage is devoted to non-action, Moves without teaching, Creates ten thousand things without instruction. The Tao does not place nearly as much importance on teaching through action. Lao-Tzu finds it more rewarding to move through life accepting the situations that are placed in front of you and growing from those experiences. Confucius differs from this approach and promotes active learning in book eight, analect 17 in which he describes treating learning as though it were something you were frightened of losing.

Answer:

The Book of Tao emphasizes belief in nature and dealing with life in a natural manner, Confucius is based on human conduct as opposed to religion and belief in God. Focus. Tao focuses majorly on nature; Confucius is focused on improving society

9. what is the against of analects by confucius

The Analects of Confucius is an anthology of brief passages that present the words of Confucius and his disciples, describe Confucius as a man, and recount some of the events of his life. The book may have begun as a collection by Confucius’s immediate disciples soon after their Master’s death in 479 BCE. In traditional China, it was believed that its contents were quickly assembled at that time, and that it was an accurate record; the English title, which means “brief sayings of Confucius,” reflects this idea of the text. (The Chinese title, Lunyu 論語, means “collated conversations.”) Modern scholars generally see the text as having been brought together over the course of two to three centuries, and believe little if any of it can be viewed as a reliable record of Confucius’s own words, or even of his individual views. Rather, much like the biblical Gospels, to which the text bears some resemblance, the Analects offers an evolving record of the image of Confucius and his ideas through from the changing standpoints of various branches of the school of thought he founded. This online translation is posted to make it easier to locate an English rendering of this important text with some basic commentary. It has been prepared for use in undergraduate teaching and is not meant to replace published scholarly editions. The interpretations reflected are my own, and in some cases do not represent consensus readings (if such exist – there are, and always have been, competing interpretations of many of the most engaging passages in the text, starting from passage 1.1). In this very brief introduction to the text, I will summarize a few features of Confucius’s life and social environment, review some basic ways in which the component parts of the Analects are dated by analysts, on a very general level, and note some particular issues concerning key terms and translation, and of personal names.

The Analects

Explanation:

Compiled by disciples of Confucius in the centuries following his death in 479 B.C.E., The Analects of Confucius is a collection of aphorisms and historical anecdotes embodying the basic values of the Confucian tradition: learning, morality, ritual decorum, and filial piety.

Answer:

The Analects (Chinese: 論語; pinyin: ;Old Chinese: [r]u[n] ŋ(r); meaning "Selected Sayings"[1]), also known as the Analects of Confucius, the Sayings of Confucius, or the Lun Yu, is an ancient Chinese book composed of a large collection of sayings and ideas attributed to the Chinese philosopher Confucius and his contemporaries, traditionally believed to have been compiled and written by Confucius's followers. It is believed to have been written during the Warring States period (475–221 BC), and it achieved its final form during the mid-Han dynasty (206 BC–220 AD). By the early Han dynasty the Analects was considered merely a "commentary" on the Five Classics, but the status of the Analects grew to be one of the central texts of Confucianism by the end of that dynasty.

19. What is the plot of the story of "the analect"

The Analects of Confucius is an anthology of brief passages that present the words of Confucius and his disciples, describe Confucius as a man, and recount some of the events of his life. The Analects includes twenty books, each generally featuring a series of chapters that encompass quotes from Confucius, which were compiled by his disciples after his death.

Book I serves as a general introduction to the various disciples in the work. Book II deals largely with issues of governance. Books III and IV are seen as the core texts, outlining Confucius's ideology. Much of the work concerns itself with the concept of the Tao or the Way, the chun-tzu or the gentleman, Li or ritual, Te or virtue, and Jen or goodness. There are additional terms in the work, but these comprise the core concepts. Taken together they form the backbone of Confucian ideals.

The Tao, or the Way, refers to a literal path or road. In the context of the work it refers to the manner in which anything is done; a method or doctrine. Confucius speaks often about the Tao under Heaven, meaning a good way or path to achieving morally superior ends. This could include self-conduct or how a kingdom is ruled.
